Cottage pie, Cornish pastries, fish & chips, bangers & mash… English food is warm and welcoming and we’ll show you where to find the best eats in the country.
Cottage Pie
A British pub-food staple, you can't go past a traditional cottage pie served hot! A generations-old favourite, it's story began as a clever idea of housewives, to create a warm and hearty meal from leftovers like cooked beef or lamb, packed with vegetables like peas and carrots, and lashings of mashed potatoes. Delicious!
Scones
It doesn’t get more British than scones and tea! If you need an afternoon pick-me-up, head to your local cafe and pick out a classic English scone - the best kinds are fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, and smothered with clotted cream and jam - and wash it all down with a steaming pot of tea.
Cornish Pasty
These baked pockets of heaven are made from shortcrust pastry filled with a mix of beef, potatoes, onions, swede and egg. When cooked together it forms a rich gravy, sealed in its own delicious wrapping. The traditional Cornish pasty originated as the portable lunch of Cornish tin miners who couldn’t return to the surface at lunchtime.
